Origins and History: The first Cornish Rex was born in 1950, on a farm in Cornwall, where its
name comes from. Inbreeding of this kitten, then crossed with Siamese, British Shorthairs and
Burmese was used to maintain curly hair, a mutation expressed by a recessive gene.
Specifically bred in 1957, it was officially recognized in 1967.
Personality: Intelligent and affectionate, they are playful, acrobatic cats. Eccentric and sociable,
they get along well with other cats and dogs.
Additional notes: The females are often in heat, and they render large litters. They love eating
and kittens show a very fast development.
