Origin and History: This breed was once owned by the Chinese imperial court. It was in 1860 that the first specimens were introduced to the West.

Personality: The Pekingese gets attached to his master, often distant towards strangers and does not always support children. It's a dog that asserts itself.

Known health issues: Dislocation of the patella, legg-calve-perthes (hip problem), dry eye, spinal disorders.

Note: They are a very good guarding dog.
