Origin and History: The former setting spaniel is likely ancestor of this breed created by Edward Laverack, who began a breeding program in 1825.

Personality: Quiet and sensitive, wonderfully sweet with children. Excellent game reporter, capable of prolonged physical activity, needs a lot of exercise.

Known health problem: In dogs with a predominantly white coat, skin reactions are common. Tendency to blindness caused by deformation of the retina.
