Itraconazole 

Drug description:

This is an oral antifungal. 

Indications

Itrafungol® is used in small animals to treat infections caused by fungi, including ringworm. 

Contraindications :

This product should not be used unless otherwise advised by a veterinarian, in animals that are very ill, have a liver or kidney problem, heart disease, are immunocompromised or in pregnant or lactating females.

Side effects:

The most common side effects are excessive salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite and depression. This drug can affect the liver as well.

Recommended monitoring:

Make sure that the animal's condition improves and that it does not suffer from side effects. 

In addition, it will be necessary to ensure that the fungus has been completely eliminated by performing a DNA analysis.

Periodic evaluation of liver enzymes is also indicated to ensure that the liver remains in good condition.

Interactions with other medications:

Given the numerous drug interactions that exist between Itrafungol® and other medications, it is important to advise the veterinarian if the animal is already receiving medication when starting Itrafungol®. 

Storage:

At room temperature. Excess heat or cold should be avoided.

Warning:

This medication should be given with a meal. 

It is best to wear gloves when handling the product and to wash your hands afterwards.

Keep out of the reach of children and animals.

In the presence of severe, worsening or persistent side effects, contact a veterinarian as soon as possible.
