Drug description:

Ketoconazole is a drug that kills fungi.

Indications:

It is used in domestic animals mainly to treat generalized infections caused by certain fungi such as Blastomyces, Histoplasma and Coccidioides.

Countraindications :

Unless otherwise specified by a veterinarian, this product should not be used in animals that are allergic to it.

In addition, it should be used with caution in animals with liver or platelets (cells involved in blood clotting) problems.

Finally, breeding or pregnant animals should not take this medication.

Please discuss with a veterinarian or consult the product monograph that accompanies the product for more information regarding contraindications.

Side effects:

The most commonly observed side effects are loss of appetite, vomiting and/or diarrhea, and liver problems.

Ketoconazole can also cause a decrease in the number of platelets, which can lead to bleeding. 

Please consult the product monograph to know more about other possible side effects. 

Interactions with other drugs:

Ketoconazole may interfere with the effectiveness of other certain medications if used simultaneously. You can ask your veterinarian which ones.

Please also notify the veterinarian if your pet is already taking any drug(s) before starting treatment with ketoconazole. This will allow us to make sure that they are compatible.

Available forms:

Ketoconazole is available in tablets and oral solution.

Storage:

Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container, protected from light.

Warnings:

Give with food high in fat content.

Pregnant women should wear gloves when handling this product and wash their hands immediately afterwards.

You must contact a veterinarian as soon as possible if side effects appear to be serious, get worse or persist.
