Active Ingredient:

Ciprofloxacine

Durg description:

It is an antibiotic belonging to the class of fluoroquinolones.

Indications:

This medication is used to treat eye infections caused by certain bacteria: Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Corynebacterium, Haemophilus and Chlamydia.

Contraindications:  

Unless otherwise directed by a veterinarian, this drug should not be used in patients who are allergic to fluoroquinolones or other components of the formulation.

Please discuss with a veterinarian or consult the product monograph for more information regarding contraindications.

Side Effects:

The most common side effects are a blurred vision, watery eyes, eye pain, redness and itching.

Recommended monitoring:

Make sure that the animal's condition improves and that it does not suffer from any side effects.

A reassessment of the condition will be necessary if no improvement is noted 7 days after the start of treatment.

Drug Interactions:

Ciloxan® may interfere with the effectiveness of some other drugs if used at the same time. You can ask your veterinarian which ones.

Please also notify the veterinarian if your pet is already taking any drug(s) before starting treatment with Ciloxan®. This will allow him or her to make sure that they are compatible.

Formulations available:

This product is available as a liquid and as an eye ointment.

Storage:

Keep at room temperature, away from moisture and sunlight.

Warning :

Do not use if the solution changes color or becomes muddy.

Wash hands after handling the product.

Clean the eye with a non-irritating solution indicated for this purpose before applying the medication.

Avoid touching the eye with the tip of the bottle/tube and disinfect it with rubbing alcohol after each application.

Close the animal's eyelids and gently massage them for a few seconds to fully spread the product over the entire surface of the eye.

Prevent the animal from rubbing the area near the eyes after application. If necessary, put an Elizabethan collar ("lamp shade") on him.

Discard any ophthalmic preparation 1 month after opening the bottle/tube.

Apply solutions first and then ointments when several ophthalmic medications with different textures are used at the same time.

Wait 5 minutes between the ocular products to allow time for each one to be absorbed.
