Description of the drug:
This product attaches to dietary phosphorus in the animal's gut and prevents it from being absorbed into the bloodstream.
It also attaches to the molecules of hydrogen in the stomach.
Aluminum hydroxide is primarily used in animals with kidney failure who have too much phosphorus in their blood.
It is also used to reduce gastric acidity (in the stomach).
Gel and powder
This product should not be used in animals with a blockage in the stomach unless advised by a veterinarian.
The most common side effect is constipation.
It is generally recommended to measure the amount of phosphorus in the animal's blood every 10 to 14 days at the start of treatment and then every 4-6 weeks when the level is stable.
The veterinarian in charge of the animal may decide to modify this schedule as needed.
