Sodium bicarbonate
Drug description:
This product makes the blood less acidic.
Indications:

Contraindications:
Please discuss with a veterinarian or consult the product monograph for more information on contraindications.
Side effects:
The use of high doses of the drug can lead to a significant decrease in the amount of calcium and potassium in the blood of the animal.
Recommended monitoring:
The degree of the pet's blood acidity and its level of blood electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium and chloride) must be carefully checked.
Interactions with other drugs:
Sodium bicarbonate can interfere with the effectiveness of some other drugs if used at the same time. You can ask your veterinarian which ones.
Please also tell the veterinarian if your pet is already taking any drug(s) before starting treatment with sodium bicarbonate. This will allow him or her to make sure that they are compatible.
