Discover cutting-edge surgical and physiotherapeutic care at Mon Vet Inc. Our expert veterinarians offer personalized treatments to ensure the best recovery for your pets.

Standard and laser surgeries

We offer a wide range of surgeries including sterilization, removal of cancerous masses, cystotomies to remove bladder stones, cesarean sections, exploratory laparotomies to remove foreign bodies stuck in the digestive tract or take intestinal biopsies, and much more.

In addition, our surgical rooms are equipped for increased anesthetic monitoring with cardiac, respiratory, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, heating mats and an electrocardiogram. Thus, we can operate on animals safely. In addition, the anesthetic gas we use is very safe.

Our surgical instruments are sterilized in an autoclave, i.e. at extremely high temperatures. Therefore, this increases the safety of our procedures by eliminating potentially infectious microorganisms.

Scalpel vs laser surgery

Surgeries can be performed in a standard fashion using a scalpel blade or a CO2 surgical laser. The technique is similar, but the laser reduces bleeding, swelling and post-operative pain by cauterizing blood vessels, sealing lymphatic vessels and nerve endings.

Sterilization

Castration and ovariohysterectomy

Neutering is a commonly performed procedure in pets. It is beneficial not only from a behavioral point of view, but also for the health of the animals.

In fact, sterilization controls feline and canine overpopulation, thus limiting the number of cats and dogs abandoned or euthanized. In addition, this procedure reduces the frequency of certain behavioral problems such as territory marking, fighting, running away and wandering.

Finally, sterilization prevents certain common diseases in animals such as pyometra (presence of pus in the uterus) and mammary cancers, especially if it is carried out before the first heat.

Recommended age for cats

Before puberty: 3 to 6 months

Recommended age for dogs

For males:

  • Small breeds: 4 to 6 months
  • Medium to large breeds: 8 to 10 months
  • Giant breeds: around 1 year

For females:

  • Between the 1st and 2nd heat: approximately 8 to 10 months

Ophthalmic surgeries

We perform surgical corrections of entropions (eyelids turned towards the eye), ectropions (eyelids turned outwards), “Cherry eye”, enucleations, nictitating dressings as well as corneal scarification in order to heal deep corneal ulcers.

Cryosurgery

We treat certain skin problems such as papillomas using this process which uses liquid nitrogen to freeze a focal area.

To do this, no sedation is required most of the time.

Orthopedic surgeries

We perform certain types of orthopedic surgeries such as amputations and joint replacements.

We also use casts to immobilize non-displaced fractures.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy offers the advantage of reducing the recovery time after orthopedic surgery and improving the chances of success. It is effective for animals with arthritis or other joint conditions.

Physiotherapy treatments can help improve the quality of life of animals without causing potentially harmful side effects as is the case with the use of medications or other products.

Our Aqua Paws Plus® therapeutic bath from Ferno, which is actually a treadmill in water, is computer-controlled and effectively regulates the exercises of dogs. Its use is always done under the constant supervision of the veterinary team which makes it very safe.

Exercising in water greatly reduces the impact on joints and increases muscle mass gain compared to conventional exercises. The Aqua Paws Plus® is equipped with resistance jets that allow pets to achieve higher levels of recovery. Sometimes, the therapeutic bath is even used to help pets lose weight.

Dr. Émilie Piché-Rondeau, m.v. obtained specific training in physiotherapy in Tennessee in 2009. We therefore entrust her with the task of developing personalized physiotherapy programs for patients who need them.

Therapeutic laser

The Hôpital Vétérinaire de l’Est Inc. (member of Groupe Vétérinaire MONVET Inc.) is equipped with a K-LASER® therapeutic laser. This device is very useful for reducing pain and is often a good alternative or complement to the use of anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications.

Its principle of action is simple: when the laser probe comes into contact with the treated region, it sends pulses which have the effect of increasing local vascularization as well as reducing swelling and pain.

The laser can be used for all kinds of conditions such as in the post-operative period of orthopedic surgery, during osteoarthritis, in the presence of a lick granuloma, etc. Very often, only a few sessions of a few minutes are enough to effectively relieve an animal’s pain!

Main advantage

It does not cause any side effects so no vomiting, diarrhea or loss of appetite are associated with its use. The laser is therefore very suitable for animals with gastrointestinal sensitivity, suffering from renal or hepatic insufficiency or for elderly animals.
