Apoquel® is used in dogs to relieve itching caused by allergies.
Form
Apoquel® is a veterinary medication used to treat itching and inflammation associated with allergies in dogs. It works by blocking the receptors responsible for allergic reactions, providing quick and effective relief. Unlike corticosteroids, it causes fewer side effects and can be used long-term under veterinary supervision. Available in tablet form, it is generally administered once or twice daily, depending on the dog’s needs. While it is well-tolerated, it may occasionally cause side effects such as gastrointestinal issues. Regular veterinary monitoring is recommended to ensure its effectiveness and safety.

Given the potential effects on certain clinical parameters, it is recommended to conduct periodic blood tests (such as complete blood counts and biochemical analyses) for dogs undergoing long-term treatment.
The use of Apoquel® tablets in combination with glucocorticoids, cyclosporine, or other immunosuppressive agents has not been evaluated.
Unless otherwise advised by the veterinarian, this product should not be administered to dogs under one year of age, those with severe infections, those used for breeding, or pregnant or lactating females.
Apoquel® is a very safe medication. Side effects are therefore very rare. These mainly include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, and increased water consumption.
It is important to monitor dogs undergoing Apoquel® treatment for any signs of infection, including demodicosis, or neoplasia. Given the potential effects on certain clinical parameters, it is recommended to perform periodic blood tests (such as complete blood counts and biochemical analyses) for dogs receiving long-term treatment.
