Consultation
Prevention is better than cure!
Regular monitoring is the key to ensuring your exotic companion lives a long and healthy life.
- For young and healthy adults: An annual visit to check the general health and prevent possible problems. Note that annual vaccination of rabbits and ferrets is recommended.
- For older or more fragile animals: Two visits per year to closely monitor progress and act quickly if necessary.
Many services are offered during consultations to best meet the needs of your animal!
Prevention and Routine Care
Dewormers and Antiparasitics
These treatments are highly recommended, especially for animals with access to the outdoors. Suitable solutions exist to protect exotic animals against ticks, fleas and other parasites.
Vaccination for Ferrets and Rabbits
Essential vaccines are available to prevent serious, fatal and incurable diseases present in Quebec, such as rabies and distemper in ferrets and rabbit hemorrhagic viral disease. These vaccines are administered annually for optimal protection.
Adoption Visit
When adopting a new exotic pet, a complete consultation is offered to accompany the animal’s first steps. The topics covered include its diet, its environment, and the necessary preventive care.
Quarantine Protocols
When introducing a new animal into a home or breeding facility, personalized protocols are developed to prevent the risk of disease transmission and ensure the safety of all animals.
Certificate of good health
If your pets are travelling, health certificates are required to cross certain borders. These can be issued at the hospital following a veterinary consultation.
Advanced Diagnostics
Blood test
With an on-site laboratory and collaboration with an external laboratory specializing in exotic animals, a wide range of tests are available for accurate and rapid diagnostics. Assessments adapted to the age and status of the animal, such as geriatric assessments, allow monitoring the health of aging animals.
Medical Imaging
For an in-depth diagnosis or to monitor the evolution of a condition, imaging tools such as X-rays and ultrasounds are available. The expertise of imaging specialists can also be requested to ensure optimal monitoring.
Bird Sexing
In some avian species, DNA sexing is the only reliable method to determine sex. By analyzing feathers or blood samples, it is possible to determine whether a bird is female or male.
4P Test
In birds, the 4Ps correspond to 4 potentially fatal diseases, one of which is transmissible to humans (chlamydia). To ensure that your birds are not carriers of these diseases, a specific test is available. This test may also be requested by some bird shelters.

Personalized Consultations
Fear-free
A specific approach is adopted to minimize stress and anxiety during consultations, in accordance with the principles of the Fear-Free training followed by Dr. Pujol and applied by the rest of the team. This method aims to ensure a positive experience for both animals and their owners.
Fish Care
Fish also benefit from appropriate care. Consultations aim to address health issues, optimize the aquatic environment and ensure their well-being. A complete examination is performed under sedation, and includes mucus samples and an ultrasound to ensure a complete assessment of the animal’s health.
End of Life Management
Accompanying an animal until its final moments is an emotionally charged step. Gentle and respectful care is offered to relieve suffering. Attentive listening and great empathy are at the heart of this support to make this moment as serene as possible.
Emergency
The unexpected happens! Our team is available to provide rapid and appropriate care in the event of sudden illness, injury or any other health concern. Each situation is handled with special attention to ensure the well-being of the animal in critical moments.
Your pet deserves the best care even when you are away. Hospitalization and boarding services are designed to provide a safe, species-appropriate and comfortable environment with attentive care and close monitoring.
Surgeries
A wide range of surgeries are offered for exotic animals including spays and neuters and curative surgeries.
Sterilizations
Sterilizations involve removing the reproductive tract, thereby preventing reproduction.
From a medical point of view, this intervention is particularly recommended in female rabbits to prevent the appearance of uterine tumors with age. The sterilization of young rats, both male and female, prevents the appearance of mammary tumors and tumors of the pituitary gland.
Neutering can also affect behavior, such as reducing urine marking, although this is not always the case!
Curative Surgeries
Abdominal and orthopedic procedures may also be necessary to treat specific conditions in a mammal, reptile or bird. Fish also benefit from special surgeries with specialized equipment to keep them asleep and comfortable during procedures.
Our hospital also has an endoscope, offering post-operative surgical approaches to your companion!
Dentistry
Depending on the species, regular dental care is necessary:
- Ferrets are prone to tartar buildup. Scaling and dental x-rays prevent tartar-related complications and more serious dental conditions.
- Rabbits have teeth that grow throughout their lives, making dental disease common. Tooth trimming or extractions may be necessary to correct malocclusions or painful conditions.
- Rodents have continuously growing incisors, which, like rabbits, can be susceptible to disease.
- Birds and turtles with systemic diseases may present with an elongated or irregular beak; beak trimming helps restore their ability to feed.
Therapeutic Laser
Laser treatment offers a gentle, non-invasive solution to relieve pain, reduce inflammation and promote healing. Exotic animals respond very well to this therapy.
