What is Internal Medicine?
A complementary specialty
Internal medicine is a specialty that treats complex diseases, whether acute or chronic. Our veterinary internist is distinguished by a global approach, taking into account all of your pet’s internal organs to diagnose and treat the most complex pathologies. These pathologies can be autoimmune, endocrine, digestive, respiratory, urinary or infectious, requiring in-depth care and personalized treatments.
Internal medicine works in addition to your general veterinarian, who refers us cases requiring specialized examinations. Our expertise guarantees you a precise diagnostic approach and an adapted treatment plan, even in the most complex situations.
Some animals may require hospitalization to continue testing or start appropriate treatment.
Effective and Accessible Additional Examinations
In order to make an accurate diagnosis and develop effective treatment, we offer a full range of additional tests, some of which can be carried out immediately during your consultation:
Depending on your pet’s health, additional tests may be necessary, performed either the same day or at a later date by appointment. These tests include:
digestive, urinary or respiratory
bone or joint marrow
carried out by radiology specialists
Endoscopy
A minimally invasive solution
We have state-of-the-art equipment to perform various endoscopies: digestive (gastroscopy, colonoscopy), urinary (cystoscopy) and respiratory (laryngoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy).
These examinations are performed under general anesthesia with constant monitoring provided by anesthetic monitors (ECG, blood pressure, thermometer, etc.).
Endoscopy allows for a detailed examination of internal organs, the removal of foreign bodies or urinary stones, and the taking of samples for further analysis (biopsies or bronchoalveolar lavage).
Bone Marrow Puncture
An analysis sometimes necessary for blood disorders
When a blood disorder is suspected (anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia), bone marrow aspiration allows us to obtain crucial samples.
Performed under general anesthesia, this procedure allows for a precise diagnosis and definition of the most appropriate treatment.
Joint Puncture
Accurate diagnosis of joint pathologies
Joint punctures allow joint fluid to be collected to analyze and treat joint pathologies.
This procedure is performed under deep sedation to ensure the comfort and safety of your pet.
Endocrine Tests
Precision diagnostics for hormonally-related diseases
To diagnose or monitor endocrine diseases such as diabetes, Cushing’s disease (hyperadrenocorticism) and Addison’s disease (hypoadrenocorticism), hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, specialized blood tests are performed.
These tests sometimes require a hospital stay of a few hours, and we will provide you with all the necessary instructions to prepare your pet for these tests.
Make an appointment in Internal Medicine
To make an appointment, your veterinarian can contact our internal medicine technicians directly, or you can contact reception yourself with the reference of your treating veterinarian.
In this latter case, reception will leave a message for our internal medicine technicians and you will be contacted to arrange an appointment.
We will ask you to send us your animal’s complete file in advance in order to best prepare for the consultation.
The first appointment lasts approximately one hour, during which we will conduct a complete review of your pet's medical history, followed by a thorough physical examination and additional tests if necessary.
It is recommended that your pet has fasted since the previous evening (except in exceptional circumstances such as diabetic animals).
We will provide you with all the necessary information when making an appointment.
