By drawing water into the digestive system, it facilitates intestinal transit and can also help reduce ammonia levels in the blood, particularly to prevent and treat hepatic encephalopathy. However, its use must be supervised by a veterinarian, especially for animals with diabetes or diarrhea. Common side effects include flatulence and bloating at the start of treatment. Lactulose should be stored at room temperature, away from light. Veterinary monitoring is recommended for prolonged use or in case of adverse effects.
