Amlodipine is commonly used in cats and dogs to treat systemic hypertension, which is often associated with conditions such as chronic kidney disease or hyperthyroidism.
Form
Amlodipine in veterinary medicine is a calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension in cats and dogs with kidney failure. It works by relaxing blood vessels, thereby reducing blood pressure and the workload on the heart. Administered in tablet form, it must be taken regularly as per veterinary recommendations. This medication is not recommended for animals with severe heart conditions. Possible side effects include lethargy, weight loss, and gingival hyperplasia in dogs. Veterinary monitoring is essential to adjust the dosage and prevent complications.
