Dexamethasone 5® is a powerful anti-inflammatory from the glucocorticosteroid class, used in domestic animals to relieve inflammation and regulate immune system responses. It is particularly useful in treating conditions where an excessive immune response could harm the animal. Available as an injectable liquid, it must be administered under veterinary supervision to ensure effectiveness and safety. The most common side effects include increased thirst, hunger, and urine production. Proper follow-up is essential to adjust the treatment based on the animal’s specific needs.

Diuretics: Increased risk of electrolyte imbalances. Anticoagulants: Altered efficacy requiring careful monitoring. Live vaccines: Reduced immune response, making vaccines less effective. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): Higher risk of gastrointestinal ulcers. Antidiabetic medications: Decreased effectiveness, leading to blood sugar fluctuations.
Allergies: If the animal is hypersensitive to dexamethasone or any of its components. Uncontrolled infections: It may worsen bacterial, viral, or fungal infections if not properly treated. Diabetes: Usage is discouraged in animals with diabetes unless strictly supervised by a veterinarian. Gastrointestinal ulcers: Risk of worsening the condition. Severe kidney or heart failure: May lead to further complications. Pregnant or nursing animals: Use should be avoided unless the benefits clearly outweigh the risks.
The most commonly observed side effects are increased thirst, hunger, and urine production. Dogs also often tend to sleep more and pant.
