Phenobarbital is an anticonvulsant used in veterinary medicine to control seizures in domestic animals. It can also induce sedation. Its use should be cautious in anemic animals or those suffering from renal, hepatic, respiratory, or cardiac disorders. Side effects include increased thirst, appetite, and urine production, as well as sedation and ataxia. Regular monitoring of phenobarbital blood levels is recommended.
