Form
Fortekor® contains benazepril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. It treats heart failure, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease in pets. This medication lowers blood pressure and reduces cardiac effort, thereby improving blood circulation. Available in various forms, it requires veterinary supervision. Possible side effects include loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Store at room temperature. Consult your veterinarian before combining it with other treatments. The veterinarian responsible for the animal will regularly monitor blood electrolyte levels (sodium, potassium, chloride), renal parameters, blood pressure, and the presence or absence of proteins in the urine.
Fortekor® may interfere with the effectiveness of certain medications when administered simultaneously, including diuretics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and medications affecting electrolytes or blood pressure. It is crucial to inform your veterinarian about any ongoing treatments before starting Fortekor® to prevent adverse interactions.
This medication should not be used in animals allergic to it. Unless otherwise advised by a veterinarian, it should not be administered to animals suffering from acute kidney failure. It must be used cautiously in cases of low blood sodium levels, cerebrovascular or coronary insufficiency, and pre-existing blood abnormalities.
Benazepril can primarily cause loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. It may also lead to lower blood pressure, impaired kidney function, and increased blood potassium levels.
If the animal vomits or loses appetite after administering Fortekor®, give the medication with food.
If itching or fever occurs, contact a veterinarian immediately.
Do not stop the medication or change the dosage without consulting the veterinarian in charge of the animal.
