Maxitrol® est un médicament ophtalmique qui combine des antibiotiques et un anti-inflammatoire pour traiter les infections oculaires bactériennes et réduire l’inflammation.
Form
Maxitrol® combines two antibiotics, neomycin and polymyxin B, along with a steroidal anti-inflammatory, dexamethasone. Available as a solution and ointment, this medication treats bacterial eye infections and reduces inflammation. However, it is contraindicated in cases of sensitivity to the ingredients or corneal ulcers. Possible side effects include inflammation, redness, or eye pain. This product must not be mixed with other medications and requires careful handling. Consult your veterinarian for safe use and follow the instructions to ensure its effectiveness and your pet’s comfort.
Neomycin sulfate, polymyxin B, and dexamethasone

Ensure that the animal’s condition improves and that it does not experience any side effects.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): Do not use simultaneously to avoid complications. Other ophthalmic preparations: Apply solutions before ointments and wait 5 minutes between products. Medications that can increase intraocular pressure: Caution advised with prolonged use.
This medication should not be used, unless otherwise advised by a veterinarian, in patients sensitive to the ingredients in the formulation or with a corneal ulcer.
Redness and irritation: The skin around the eyes may become red or irritated. Increased intraocular pressure: This can lead to glaucoma. Allergic reactions: Itching, swelling of the eyelids, or redness of the eyes. Delayed healing: In cases of prolonged use.
Wash hands after handling the product.
The eye should be cleaned with a non-irritating solution indicated for this purpose before applying the medication.
Avoid touching the eye with the tip of the container.
After applying the medication, close the eyelids and gently massage them for a few seconds to spread the product across the surface of the eye.
Prevent the animal from cleaning the area near the eyes after application. If needed, an Elizabethan collar can be used.
Any ophthalmic preparation should be discarded 1 month after opening the container.
When using different types of ophthalmic medications at the same time, solutions should be applied first, followed by ointments.
Additionally, wait 5 minutes between eye products to allow each to be absorbed and act effectively.
