In domestic animals, acetylcysteine is used:
– To reduce the thickness of secretions in the lungs and eyes
– As an antidote for Tylenol® (acetaminophen) and xylitol poisoning
Form
Veterinary acetylcysteine thins thick secretions in the lungs and eyes, making their elimination easier. It is used to treat respiratory and ocular disorders. This medication is also an effective antidote for Tylenol® (acetaminophen) and xylitol poisoning. Available as an injectable solution, for inhalation, or in capsules, its form depends on the animal’s needs. It must be administered under veterinary supervision. Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, and hives. Monitoring is essential to assess the animal’s condition. Its use is discouraged in certain animals suffering from bronchial disorders or allergies.
Acétylcystéine
Acetylcysteine should be stored at room temperature.
The veterinarian may want to check the animal’s:
– Liver enzymes
– Electrolyte levels (sodium, potassium, chloride, etc.) in the blood
– Hydration levels

Unless advised otherwise by the veterinarian: This medication should not be used in animals that have previously taken it and had a negative reaction. It should also be used with caution in animals with certain bronchial disorders.
This product can cause nausea, vomiting, and, more rarely, hives (numerous bumps that suddenly appear on the animal's body).
Use this medication only under veterinary supervision.
